Emphasis on clean energy development in Seventh Development Plan

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of the Parliament’s Energy Committee said one of Iran’s main priorities is moving toward clean energy, announcing that a specific share of the country’s electricity must be generated from renewable sources, including solar and wind power plants, under the Seventh Development Plan.

Mousa Ahmadi made the remarks Wednesday during a visit by members of the Energy Committee to the Shiraz Expo. He said that with declining rainfall, limitations on hydropower plants, and challenges facing thermal power stations during winter, the need for solar power plants is increasingly evident.

Ahmadi noted that hydropower plants have faced difficulties due to reduced precipitation, nuclear plants cannot fully meet demand, and thermal plants encounter problems because of high gas consumption in cold seasons. “Therefore, our approach is to move toward using solar power plants,” he said. “In the Seventh Development Plan, we have defined how much of the country’s electricity must come from renewable power plants, including both solar and wind.”

The lawmaker added that government organizations and ministries are now encouraged to use solar panels to meet their energy needs, and that the committee supports such initiatives.

Ahmadi also said gas field development and pressure-boosting projects could play a significant role in addressing the country’s energy imbalance.
