NPC head highlights leveraging strategic successes to advance petchem industry

SHANA (Tehran) – The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) emphasized the importance of the Petrochemical Industry Excellence Award, stating that the successful presence of petrochemical companies in various fields has driven industry players toward excellence and progress.

By aiming for a strong presence in diverse areas, these companies have enhanced both the quantity and quality of their operations.

Hassan Abbaszadeh, speaking ahead of the 11th Petrochemical Industry Excellence Award ceremony, highlighted that the petrochemical industry is a leading sector in the country.

He noted that learning from successful experiences can facilitate development, adding that the award provides an opportunity to evaluate competition among petrochemical companies.

The official further explained that the Petrochemical Industry Excellence Award allows companies to learn from each other’s capabilities and achievements while positioning themselves for evaluation. This process involves external assessments by qualified evaluators, who review and encourage their performance.

The deputy oil minister noted that this year’s award prioritizes key areas for petrochemical companies and evaluators, including production efficiency, optimal feedstock usage, energy optimization, and the creation and completion of value chains.

Abbaszadeh pointed out that companies striving to transform semi-raw materials into higher-value products gain an advantage.

He emphasized that developing supply chain capabilities, improving safety standards, and environmental protection are critical evaluation metrics, all of which have consistently received support from petrochemical companies.

He added that 40 out of 67 participating companies in this year’s award are major players competing for the main prize. Alongside the EFQM model used for the Excellence Award, nine companies are implementing the CPM3 model. Additionally, three contractors and 15 downstream companies are participating in this cycle.

The deputy oil minister stressed that the Petrochemical Industry Excellence Award is not limited to petrochemical companies but also includes a network of consultants, contractors, suppliers, and downstream industries. This year’s event featured specialized meetings, training sessions for evaluators, and excellence tours for managers to enhance learning and precision.

Abbaszadeh highlighted that a key difference this year is the use of domestic evaluators. Awards will be given to companies demonstrating productivity growth, value creation, supply chain development, and improved safety standards.

The 11th Petrochemical Industry Excellence Award ceremony will be held on Saturday (March 8) at the Olympic Hotel, attended by senior industry leaders.
