Hassan Abbaszadeh, speaking at the induction of the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone on Saturday, highlighted the importance of the petrochemical sector as a key driver of added value and industrial growth.
He noted that, in line with the Leader’s emphasis on curbing raw material exports and completing the value chain, the industry is leveraging all available resources to achieve balanced growth and development.
Abbaszadeh stated that Iran’s petrochemical production capacity has reached approximately 100 million tons, adding that, under the Seventh Development Plan, a target has been set to increase this capacity by 30 million tons, reaching 131 million tons.
The NPC head continued by noting that Iran’s petrochemical industry is now proudly one of the region's leading powers. He highlighted Mahshahr as a vital industrial hub, producing critical and functional products.
Abbaszadeh explained that most products manufactured in the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone are used domestically as he emphasized the diverse range of feedstocks available, enabling petrochemical plants to produce various products that meet national demand.
The deputy minister also pointed to the significance of projects like NGL 3100, which will soon come online, stressing its crucial role in supplying feedstock to the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone.
Abbaszadeh expressed gratitude for the efforts of outgoing managing director Payam Barzegar and introduced Mohammadreza Motayeri as the acting director of the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone.
He emphasized the importance of community engagement, safeguarding the region’s safety and security, enhancing industrial and social infrastructure, and taking effective measures to implement the second phase of the zone.
Abbaszadeh also highlighted the role of private sector investment in advancing the petrochemical industry, calling for the creation of favorable conditions to attract investors and avoid unnecessary restrictions.
He stressed that the development of the second phase of the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone is a strategic initiative that will boost the region’s economy and create employment opportunities. He added that the zone is ready to collaborate with organizations and governmental bodies, calling for collective efforts to appreciate the contributions of the region’s honorable residents.
Amir Hayat-Moqaddam, a parliamentarian representing Mahshahr, also addressed the ceremony, expressing hope that the long-delayed second phase of the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone will soon become a hub for the industry’s players, contributing to the value chain completion.
Hayat-Moqaddam stressed that petrochemical companies must take employment creation seriously and adhere to their commitments to corporate social responsibility as outlined by the strategic and policy councils of the zone.
