Iran’s petchem industry generates $16b despite sanctions: MP

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of the Parliamentary Oversight Board on the Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Industries announced that this year marks the 60th anniversary of Iran’s petrochemical industry, which has achieved the remarkable milestone of generating approximately $16 billion in revenue for the country despite sanctions.

Speaking on National Petrochemical Industry Day, Zeinab Qeysari congratulated industry employees and managers, emphasizing the importance of recognizing their efforts and accomplishments.

“This day is an opportunity to honor the contributions of all those working in this vital industry,” she said.

Qeysari highlighted the petrochemical industry as a driving force in Iran’s economy, playing a pivotal role in the country’s gross domestic product.

Referring to the Seventh Development Plan’s mandates for the petrochemical sector, she noted that, under Chapter 10, efforts to prevent raw material exports and enhance the value chain must increase production capacity from the current 100 million tons to nearly 132 million tons.

Achieving this target, the lawmaker stressed, will require strategic planning and the commitment of the industry’s managers and specialists.
