Muscat - His Highness Sayyid Shabib bin Taimour Al Said, adviser to His Majesty the Sultan for environmental affairs, will attend the inaugural ceremony of Al Kamil Power Plant in the Sharqiyah region on Sunday.
The power generation plant produces 285MW and cost around RO45 million.
The facility, which uses three gas turbines, is meant to replace diesel-fired power stations operating in the region. It will improve power supply for domestic use and reduces operation and repair cost of local electricity networks.
Al Kamil Power Company (SAOC) developed the plant on a build-own-operate agreement signed in July 2000. The output will be sold to the government under a power purchase agreement.
The government financed construction of 132kV network which will transmit production to all wilayats in the region and also links up with the national grid.
The agreement provides that the company Omanises 75 per cent of its workforce when the contract expires after 15 years from start of commercial operation.
