Qobad Nasseri stated that the fishing operation in the Maroon Oil and Gas Bangestan well was carried out without the need for a drilling rig, relying solely on the technical and operational expertise of oil industry personnel.
He explained that after approximately 2,300 meters of tubing were left in the well during a cleanup operation using a mobile tubing unit, which halted daily production of 2,500 barrels of crude oil, field assessments and multiple technical meetings led to the decision to conduct the fishing operation without a rig while adhering to safety protocols.
Nasseri added that after securing the necessary fluids, equipment, and facilities—including a pump truck, mobile tubing unit, and fishing tools—and deploying operational teams to the site, the well was killed using brine (68 pounds per cubic foot).
The fishing operation was then successfully completed, ensuring the well’s full safety.
The CEO expressed gratitude to the operational and support teams for their efforts in achieving this success.
He noted that the successful operation saved significant costs associated with rig-based well repair operations and prevented a production halt of at least two months, which would have resulted in the loss of 2,500 barrels of crude oil per day.
Fishing operations are conducted to the recovery of undesirable objects or materials left in the wellbore. While drilling, equipment such as drill bits, tools, and casing may get stuck or lost due to various factors such as mechanical breakdown or unfavorable well conditions.
