To address this, the ministry accelerated refinery development projects, optimized production processes, and improved the efficiency of feedstock supply. These efforts have successfully increased the average daily production of both gasoline and diesel by 5 million liters each during the administration's first year.
Key to this increase were upgrade projects at major refineries, including the Persian Gulf Star, Abadan, Tehran, and Isfahan facilities.
Gasoline production gains
Process improvements and adopting new technologies, such as launching an isomerization unit at the Shiraz refinery and a hydrocracker at the Abadan refinery, alongside an increase of 100,000 barrels per day in crude oil feedstock delivery, raised average daily gasoline production to approximately 103 million liters between August 2024 and July 2025. This marks a 5 million liter increase over the same period the previous year.
The country also set unprecedented production records. Average daily production rose from 98 million liters in the first five months of the Iranian calendar year 1403 (March 2024 - July 2024) to approximately 105 million liters (an 8 million liter increase) by November 2024.
Specific refinery achievements include:
Persian Gulf Star Refinery: Increased daily gasoline production by 4 million liters to a record 42.6 million liters in the latter half of 2024. The refinery's CEO credited improved processes, increased unit pressure, and new compressors, which also reduced waste and saved $70 million. Its total refining capacity grew from 420,000 to 450,000 barrels per day.
Tehran Refinery: Increased daily gasoline output from 6.3 million to 7.5 million liters by utilizing idle capacity in its gasoline production units and sourcing more domestic feedstock.
Isfahan Refinery: Raised its refining capacity from 390,000 to 430,000 barrels per day, boosting gasoline production from 11 million to 13 million liters daily. It now supplies approximately 20% of the country's fuel.
Abadan Refinery: Increased daily gasoline production by approximately 3 million liters, recording 20% growth in 2024. It now produces 17.8 million liters daily, making it a significant contributor to the nation's supply of gasoline, gas oil, and fuel oil.
Significant increase in diesel production
Diesel production also broke records. The average daily output rose from 111 million liters in the first five months of 1403 (March-July 2024) to 116 million liters by August 2025, a net increase of 5 million liters.
Production hit 121 million liters per day in December 2024, an 8 million liter increase from December 2023. This upward trend continued, with production reaching 123 and 122 million liters per day in January and February 2025, respectively, representing a 14% year-over-year increase.
The record-setting production of gasoline and diesel by Iran’s refineries underscores the oil industry's success in enhancing refining capabilities and productivity. These achievements are crucial for guaranteeing the country’s energy security, reducing imports, strengthening foreign exchange resources, and creating a positive outlook for the stable supply of petroleum products.
