Gasoline, diesel output up 9m liters since start of current administration

SHANA (Tehran) – The deputy head of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) said total gasoline and diesel production has risen by 9 million liters per day from the start of the 14th administration through September, an increase equivalent to the output of a refinery processing 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

According to NIORDC, Mohammadali Dadvar said gasoline and diesel production grew over the past year (September 2024 to September 2025). Based on refinery performance data, gasoline output increased by 4.3 million liters per day and diesel output by 4.7 million liters per day compared with the previous period (September 2023 to September 2024). He noted that the increase in both products is comparable to adding the capacity of a 100,000-barrel-per-day refinery.

He said gasoline production averaged 98 million liters per day from September 2023 to September 2024, rising to 102.3 million liters per day from the start of the current administration through this September. Diesel production rose from 111 million liters per day in the previous period to 115.7 million liters per day between September 2024 and September 2025.

Production Jump Without New Refineries

Dadvar emphasized that the gains in gasoline and diesel output over the past year were achieved without adding any new refineries, yet the increase in both fuels equals the capacity of a refinery processing 100,000 barrels of crude per day.

Comparing the first six months of this year with the same period last year, he said gasoline production averaged 98 million liters per day in the first half of 2023, rising by 500,000 liters to 98.5 million liters per day in the six months to mid-September.

He added that gasoline distribution rose from 124.5 million liters per day in the first half of 1403 to 133 million liters per day in the same period this year, reflecting an 8-million-liter increase in consumption. Diesel output also increased, climbing from 112 million liters per day in the first half of 1403 to 115 million liters per day in the first half of this Iranian year.

 Refinery Feedstock Up 72,000 Barrels

Dadvar said another key development since the start of the 14th administration has been higher refinery feedstock. Feedstock rose from 2.287 million barrels per day between September 2023 and September 2024 to 2.359 million barrels per day from September 2024 to September 2025, an increase of 72,000 barrels per day.

In the first half of the current year, refinery feedstock averaged 2.321 million barrels per day, up from 2.302 million barrels per day in the first half of 1403.

Dadvar also highlighted the overhaul of the RFCC (residual fluid catalytic cracking) unit at the Shazand Arak refinery. He said only emergency repairs had been carried out over the past 13 years, leading to significant declines in gasoline and diesel production from the unit in recent years.

Despite high consumption pressures during the first half of the year — driven by heavy Nowruz and summer travel and disruptions caused by a 12-day conflict — the RFCC unit at the Imam Khomeini (Shazand) refinery underwent a complete overhaul, including full reconstruction of all internal and external reactor components, to prevent permanent shutdown, he said.
