Reza Moradi-Haqiqat, the internal audit director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), accompanied Abbas Asadrouz, CEO of the IOTC, on a visit to the Kharg oil terminal on Tuesday.
During the visit to the eastern dock (T), Asadrouz highlighted Kharg’s key position in Iran’s oil industry, noting that geological studies, exploration, development, and oil production all culminate at this terminal.
He stressed that the IOTC is tasked with the critical mission of receiving, storing, measuring, and exporting oil and gas condensates, playing a vital role in the country’s economy.
Asadrouz, referring to the company’s operations in five provinces, described Kharg as the most important terminal in terms of strategic infrastructure, physical resources, and human capital.
He added, “As the final link in the oil value chain and the bridge between the NIOC and domestic and international customers, we bear a significant responsibility for the sustainable continuity of production and exports.”
Kharg: The heart of Iran’s oil exports
Asadrouz outlined Kharg’s unique features as the country’s primary oil export hub, including its proximity to oil production areas, which reduces transfer costs; the island’s optimal elevation, allowing oil transfer to tankers without the need for pumping; its natural coral bed, eliminating the need for periodic dredging; and the suitable depth of surrounding waters, enabling the docking of supertankers.
He also highlighted the strategic position of the Jask oil terminal and its role in diversifying the country’s export routes, adding that exporting gas condensates from Asaluyeh is another key mission of the company.
Precision, transparency in oil exports
The IOTC CEO emphasized the importance of accuracy in oil export processes, stating that operations are carried out under the highest standards and the supervision of experienced professionals to ensure the accuracy and transparency of oil deliveries to customers.
He added that the company’s technical and operational capabilities allow for the loading and separation of oil tankers to proceed without delay, even under unfavorable weather conditions.
Supporting domestic production, infrastructure development
Asadrouz underscored the importance of utilizing domestic capabilities to supply oil industry equipment, noting that some required equipment has been produced in collaboration with domestic new technology-based firms (NTBFs).
“As an agile organization, we are fully prepared to export any volume of oil delivered to us without interruption,” he said.
Need for infrastructure modernization, funding
Concluding the visit, Asadrouz presented a report on the IOTC’s performance in supporting oil production, supplying the country’s gas, and exporting gas condensates.
He emphasized the need for allocating necessary funds to modernize infrastructure and equipment, stating, “To maintain Iran’s position in global oil markets, the continuous development and modernization of oil terminals is an unavoidable necessity.”
Moradi-Haqiqat, expressed satisfaction with the visit, praising the efforts of the terminal’s staff. “Today, we witnessed firsthand the round-the-clock efforts of oil industry professionals in Kharg. These efforts play an unparalleled role in serving the country and advancing the goals of the oil industry,” he said.
