Record high set in power plant diesel deliveries amid winter challenges

SHANA (Tehran) – The average daily delivery of diesel to power plants reached an unprecedented 60 million liters during the first week of the Iranian month of Esfand (Feb. 19-25), marking a 130% increase compared to the same period last year, when deliveries averaged 26 million liters per day.

Since assuming office as the head of the 14th administration, President Masoud Pezeshkian has faced numerous challenges, including securing winter fuel supplies.

An early onset of cold weather exacerbated the situation, making fuel provision a top priority for energy officials. In response, the Oil Ministry intensified efforts to maximize fuel deliveries, including liquid fuel, to power plants.

A review of diesel distribution trends from the months of Azar (Nov. 21-Dec. 20), Dey (Dec. 21-Jan. 19), Bahman (Jan. 20-Feb. 20), and the first week of Esfand reveals significant progress.

Following the 14th administration’s inauguration, a notable increase in fuel production and delivery to power plants was prioritized, particularly amid an unusual drop in temperatures.

In Azar, average daily diesel deliveries hit a record 51 million liters, a 50% increase compared to the same period in 2023 (34 million liters per day) and a 64% rise compared to 2022 (31 million liters per day). In Dey, deliveries rose by 3 million liters to 54 million liters daily, up 32% from Dey 1402 (41 million liters) and 28% from Dey 1401 (42 million liters).

According to the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, average daily diesel deliveries in Bahman reached 55 million liters, a 41% increase compared to Bahman 1402 (39 million liters) and a 62% rise compared to Bahman 1401 (34 million liters).

During the coldest week of the year, the Oil Ministry spared no effort to ensure heating and electricity for households, maintaining its record-breaking diesel deliveries. In the first week of Esfand, average daily deliveries surged to 60 million liters, a 130% increase compared to the same period in 1402 (26 million liters) and a 114% rise compared to 1401 (28 million liters).

The administration’s efforts have significantly bolstered fuel supplies to power plants, ensuring stability during the winter months.
