Energy minister: Oil Ministry striving to maximize power plant fuel supply

SHANA (Tehran) – The energy minister praised public cooperation in energy conservation and stated that the Oil Ministry is working diligently to ensure fuel supply for power plants.

Speaking on Wednesday on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting, Abbas Aliabadi addressed energy-saving efforts, saying, “It’s not feasible to meet the country’s electricity and energy needs solely by restricting administrative operations or implementing closures. From my perspective, public cooperation in energy conservation has been commendable, although it requires further evaluation. In areas where smart meters are used, such as government agencies, we’ve achieved significant savings.”

Aliabadi noted that sufficient maintenance has been performed on power plant units to prepare for winter electricity production. He added, “If fuel is supplied and the public continues to cooperate, we won’t face any problems.”

Regarding electricity imports from Turkmenistan, the minister stated, “During several trips to Turkmenistan, we managed to secure a contract for the maximum transfer of electricity from there until summer. This is positive news, but given our level of demand, it is not enough.”

He emphasized, “The demand far exceeds this supply. Our colleagues at the Oil Ministry are working hard to provide fuel for power plants. If the fuel is secured, we will have no issues meeting electricity needs.”
