Iran, Iraq Discuss Gas Ties in Doha

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The Iranian and Iraqi oil ministers discussed ramping up Iran's gas exports to Iraq and settling Iraq's gas debt to Iran in a meeting in Doha, Qatar.

Iranian Minister of Petroleum Javad Owji met with his Iraqi counterpart Ihsan Abdul Jabbar Ismail on the sidelines of a meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Doha to discuss expanding energy cooperation between the two countries.

During his stay in Doha, Owji held intensive talks with his counterparts and signed a memorandum of understanding with Venezuela.

The Minister of Petroleum had left Tehran for Doha on Saturday evening (February 19) to attend an extraordinary ministerial meeting and the 6th GECF Summit. He returned to Tehran on Tuesday evening.

The GECF members account for 44% of world gas production, 67% of world gas reserves, 64% of pipeline gas transmission and 66% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade.
