Development cannot be sustainable without environmental benefits: NIGC

SHANA (Tehran) – Saeid Tavakoli, CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), stated that achieving sustainable development and progress is impossible without considering environmental benefits.

Speaking at a ceremony on Saturday to sign a contract for the sale of acidic gases from the Bid Boland Gas Refinery's processing units, Tavakoli emphasized that any project related to the environment contributes to sustainable development. He highlighted the Bid Boland refinery project as a prime example of such efforts.

Tavakoli expressed expectations for the NIGC, as a leading entity, to continuously advance. He noted that the company has undertaken significant measures this year, including fully utilizing the capacity of gas pressure boosting stations and nationwide pipelines, which he described as unprecedented.

The CEO stressed that the company employs gas-based repair methods to ensure gas supply is never interrupted under any circumstances.

He assured that all operations are carried out with fully engineered and reliable risk management. Tavakoli acknowledged that the gas industry is one of the most hazardous, second only to nuclear, and while absolute certainty is impossible, the company has made every effort to prevent even a single error.

He added that these achievements have enhanced the National Iranian Gas Company's record of accomplishments and have resulted in valuable experiences now being utilized.

Tavakoli also highlighted the importance of industrial waste management, noting that the Bid Boland refinery's contractor's initiative to reduce pollution indicators by utilizing waste presents a unique opportunity.

The contract for the sale of acidic gases from the gas processing units was signed during the ceremony between the CEO of Bid Boland Gas Refinery and the chairman of the board of the new technology-based firm (NTBF) executing the project.
