Tehran, Moscow agree to fast-track economic ties

SHANA (Tehran) — Russia's energy minister said Tehran and Moscow have agreed to accelerate efforts to remove obstacles facing companies from both countries, adding that bilateral energy cooperation has produced satisfactory results despite recent challenges.

Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev said Monday, after meeting with Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, that the two sides maintain regular consultations and strong working relations.

Tsivilev said the ministers reviewed implementation of agreements reached during the 19th Iran-Russia Joint Economic Cooperation Commission, held in Tehran in February. Representatives of companies from both countries presented progress reports, and officials made key decisions on outstanding issues.

He said both sides agreed to address and resolve questions and concerns raised by Iranian and Russian companies as quickly as possible. Tsivilev also expressed hope that Iran's oil minister would visit Moscow soon to help further accelerate cooperation.

Despite what he described as recent extraordinary circumstances and developments, Tsivilev said both governments were satisfied with the progress of joint projects and the performance of companies involved.

Russian Energy Infrastructure Damaged

Commenting on damage to Russia's energy infrastructure, Tsivilev said some facilities, particularly oil refineries, had been targeted in attacks that he said violated international conventions and protocols.

He said Russia is relying on its domestic capabilities to ensure sufficient gasoline supplies and meet the country's energy needs.
