New details revealed on Paznan field discovery

SHANA (Tehran) – The director of exploration at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has released new details about recently discovered reserves in the Paznan field, announcing the identification of two new reservoir layers — a gas reservoir estimated at 10 trillion cubic feet and an oil reservoir with recoverable reserves of 200 million barrels.

According to NIOC, Mohyeddin Jafari said the second exploratory well at the Paznan field was drilled last year, and after detailed tests and analyses, two new oil and gas layers were identified.

He added that the total volume of newly discovered gas, along with the increase from the second well’s initial results achieved under the 14th administration, is estimated at about 10 trillion cubic feet. The figure is expected to rise further with the drilling of a third well.

Jafari noted that the new gas reserves discovered in the Paznan field equal roughly 7,000 days of production from a standard South Pars phase and could meet the gas needs of four provinces for more than 18 years.

He said the Paznan field is now recognized as the largest onshore gas field in the country, ranking first among Iran’s onshore gas fields in terms of volume.

Jafari credited the achievement to the continued efforts of exploration experts and the support of the Oil Ministry and NIOC leadership. He expressed gratitude to the oil minister, NIOC’s managing director, and his colleagues in the exploration department for their scientific precision and round-the-clock dedication that made the discovery possible.
