The meeting, scheduled for June 25-26 in Gurugram, India, will focus on reviewing achievements and initiatives by BRICS members aimed at advancing sustainable energy development. Participants are also expected to explore opportunities for deeper cooperation within the BRICS framework.
During the visit, Paknejad is set to meet with Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri to discuss prospects for expanding Tehran-New Delhi cooperation in the oil, gas, refining and petrochemical sectors.
Iran has emphasized strengthening energy ties with India and expanding bilateral cooperation in key areas of the energy industry.
The Iranian minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with several energy and oil ministers from other BRICS member countries on the sidelines of the gathering.
According to Shana, the BRICS group brings together 11 major emerging economies and developing countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
The official BRICS 2026 platform says the group’s agenda has evolved significantly beyond its original focus on economic issues of common interest and is now structured around three main pillars: political and security cooperation, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
BRICS cooperation continues to expand across a broad range of global issues, including counterterrorism, climate change, food and energy security, international economic and financial affairs, telecommunications, agriculture, labor and employment, international financial architecture, trade and the World Trade Organization.
The 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting will be held in Gurugram on June 25 and 26.
