Gov’t, Parliament align to support petchem downstream industries

SHANA (Tehran) – The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company said coordination between the government and Parliament is helping meet the needs of downstream petrochemical industries.

According to the company, Hassan Abbaszadeh highlighted plans by the Oil Ministry, the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, and other relevant bodies to supply feedstock and resources to downstream sectors. He said cooperation between the administration and the Parliament is paving the way to address the needs of various industries.

Speaking at a meeting with members of parliamentary Economic Committee, Abbaszadeh stressed the need for alignment among all branches of government and the development of new strategies. He said such efforts would support balanced growth, clarify relationships among petrochemical projects and complexes, and improve coordination among holding companies and industry firms.

He also noted that the statute of the NPC has been finalized by a joint parliamentary energy and industry committee. Its approval, he said, will strengthen alignment across the petrochemical sector and enable the company to play its regulatory and supportive roles more effectively.

The deputy oil minister reiterated that cooperation among the oil ministry, the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, and other institutions — alongside Parliament — will help meet the needs of downstream industries.

Abbaszadeh thanked lawmakers for their support and presented a report on incidents affecting petrochemical complexes during the third imposed war. Members of Parliament’s economic committee also shared their views.

Boosting Supply, Containing Price Shocks

Shamseddin Hosseini, head of parliament’s Economic Committee, praised the organizational maturity and human capital of the NPC. He said its performance during recent crises demonstrated the strength of its institutional structure when operating with efficiency and seriousness. He added that such strengths should be communicated transparently to the public.

Hosseini said parliament has conducted specialized reviews in key sectors, including essential goods, petrochemicals and medical equipment. He identified two main priorities: increasing production capacity and supply, and reducing and containing price shocks. He called for practical proposals from petrochemical and steel industry stakeholders to help achieve these goals.

He also stressed the need to control liquidity growth without harming production, saying targeted credit allocation to leading sectors should be pursued. Failure to provide adequate financing, he warned, could negatively affect the broader economy.

Hosseini said the legislature is ready to support industries at the international level, including through economic diplomacy when needed. He concluded by honoring those martyred in the petrochemical sector and reaffirming Parliament’s support for the regulatory role of the NPC.
