Shiraz refinery project prevents release of 20 tons of sulfur

SHANA (Tehran) – The economic deputy of the Armed Forces Social Security Organization said the Shiraz refinery diesel quality upgrade project (DHT), comprising 13 processing units, has been completed and will prevent the daily release of 20 tons of sulfur into the environment.

Amir Ahmadi said at the online inauguration ceremony for 120 projects in oil, petrochemicals, housing, energy, steel and food security on Tuesday, Feb. 3, that the Shiraz refinery DHT project was completed in line with refinery quality-upgrade requirements and includes 13 processing units.

He said the $202 million project has reduced sulfur content in diesel from 7,000 parts per million to 10 ppm, preventing the daily emission of 20 tons of sulfur into the environment.

Ahmadi added that the project produces about 4 million liters of Euro 5–standard diesel per day, with 85% of the equipment sourced domestically. About 9 million person-hours of work were logged during implementation.

The Shiraz refinery diesel quality upgrade project was inaugurated Tuesday by President Masoud Pezeshkian, alongside Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, via videoconference.
