Gholamreza Baqeri-Dizaj, speaking at the inauguration of the refinery’s kerosene hydrotreater (KHT) unit, said that in the coming year one or two environmentally focused projects will come online every three months, aimed at cutting resource use and ensuring sustained production.
He said the kerosene quality upgrade is one of the refinery’s key initiatives, noting that the product is a valuable feedstock used in downstream industries and for producing detergents. By desulfurizing kerosene, the refinery can also produce export-grade solvents.
Baqeri-Dizaj said the unit’s flexibility and desulfurization process allow it to lift the product from Euro-2 to Euro-5 standards, while maintaining a capacity of 19,000 barrels a day.
He added that the unit can be expanded further, enabling the refinery to convert non-exportable products such as Solvent 402 into exportable grades. A complementary phase of the project is planned for the future.
