TEHRAN – The ninth olefin plant, which is being built by Polymer Arya Sasol Company has progressed 95.24 percent by September 22 and will become full operational by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2006).

Official in charge of planning and project control and Polymer Arya Sasol Company told Petroenergy Information Network that engineering operations have ended and also mentioned progress figures for civil operations, procurement, and installation at 98.5 percent, 99.84 percent, and 88.84 percent, respectively. Mohammad Reza Yazdani stated that ethylene unit of the complex has also progressed 96.67 percent during the said period. He added that the ethylene unit was to be pre-commissioned in March, but due to lack of utility and other problems, the unit will be pre-commissioned in December. He stated that construction of low density polyethylene plant will be finished in February while medium and high density polyethylene plants will be finished in March 2007. “The offsite project of Polymer Arya Sasol Company has progressed 96.45 percent by the end of September. The project will be finished by late December,” he noted. The ninth olefin plant is among the worlds biggest olefin plants, which is being built by the National Petrochemical Company and Sasol Company of South Africa at Pars Special Economic Energy Zone in Assaluyeh. Its products, which will be exported, include 400,000 tons ethylene, 90,000 tons carbon 3 cut, 300,000 tons medium and high density polyethylene, and 300,000 tons light polyethylene per year. The products will be used by downstream industries to make home appliances, film, utensils, industrial parts, pipes, bags, and cable coating. The main feedstock for the ninth olefin plant includes ethane, propane, hexane, and propylene, which will be supplied by Pars Petrochemical Complex and other domestic sources. Also, Mobin Petrochemical Complex will supply needed utility for the plant.
