Abbas Asadrouz said Saturday during a visit by the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company to Kharg Island that the Kharg terminal, as the country’s largest and most advanced oil export hub, is the beating heart of Iran’s oil exports, handling more than 90% of the nation’s exported oil destined for global markets.
He added that Kharg’s geopolitical location in the Persian Gulf, proximity to major oil fields, suitable water depth for ocean-going tankers, and advanced infrastructure for storage, loading and exports make it unrivaled in the region.
Highlighting the company’s full operational readiness, Asadrouz said that despite restrictions, the Kharg terminal—with its storage tanks, export docks, precise measurement systems, smart control systems and simultaneous multi-tanker loading capability—can maintain stable oil export flows under various conditions.
Referring to the company’s other operational responsibilities, Asadrouz noted that Iranian oil terminals are also tasked with facility maintenance, environmental and passive defense management, port services, safety and firefighting, water and energy supply, as well as coordination with producers and government entities.
He also announced ongoing development projects, including expanded storage capacity, pipeline modernization, dock upgrades and the adoption of new technologies, aimed at enhancing operational agility and preparedness for diverse export scenarios.
Stressing the strategic role of Iran’s oil terminals in energy security, Asadrouz said they are at the forefront of implementing policies set by the Ministry of Petroleum and the National Iranian Oil Company, ready to ensure uninterrupted oil exports with the highest safety and quality standards, relying on domestic expertise and workforce capabilities.
Asadrouz described Kharg Island not just as an operational terminal but as a national energy hub, calling its role in Iran’s oil export resilience vital, irreplaceable and regionally exceptional.
