Gov’t spox: Fuel reserves improved

SHANA (Tehran) — Iran’s government spokesperson said Tuesday that the country’s fuel reserves have improved compared with last year, despite being about 40% to 45% lower at the start of September 2024.

“The shortfall has now been compensated,” spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told reporters at a press briefing. She added that managing consumption, particularly in government facilities, remains an important priority.

Mohajerani said the government is focusing on increasing production, preventing pressure drops, reducing losses and strengthening consumption management. She also highlighted the role of new technology-based firms (NTBFs) in the oil sector, saying their capacity will support oil production and a tech-driven economy.

She added that with the expansion of solar power plants this year, fuel use is expected to decline. Overhauls and upgrades of power plants will also play a key role in cutting energy consumption, she said.
