Cooperation, awareness: Key to enhancing gas industry operations

SHANA (Tehran) - The deputy oil minister for gas affairs emphasized that mutual cooperation and awareness are two key factors in improving operational quality and advancing the gas industry.

He also stressed the importance of retaining skilled personnel and addressing challenges to ensure the country’s energy security.

Speaking at the first technical and specialized event for Iran’s gas refining operators, Saeid Tavakoli described the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) as the country’s largest, most revolutionary, advanced, precise, and complex network and industry.
He noted that NIGC plays a vital role in providing stable and secure energy by leveraging modern technology and highly skilled personnel. Through cutting-edge technology and the continuous efforts of its employees, the company has laid the groundwork for sustainable development and energy security.

Reflecting on the company’s performance last winter, Tavakoli said, "Despite severe cold and a significant increase in gas demand, each of you achieved something remarkable—though you may not realize just how great your accomplishment was. If we successfully navigated last winter, it was thanks to a strong, united team. Everyone at NIGC and the refineries stood firm, and I am confident that NIGC is a company of integrity with a bright future ahead."

The deputy minister highlighted that NIGC supplies 75% of the country’s energy mix and 80% of power plants’ energy needs, with 95% of Iran’s population relying on this critical industry.
"This company is the driving force behind the nation’s development," he said.
"The gas industry has evolved from a purely technical sector into an economic, social, and security priority. Therefore, I urge Parliament to take serious steps to motivate employees and remove obstacles, as retaining skilled and motivated personnel is crucial under these challenging conditions."

Operators: The ‘Pilots’ of facilities

Tavakoli likened gas refining operators to pilots, stating that they must maintain a meaningful and continuous connection with their equipment.
"This connection is only possible when operators have full awareness of their equipment and its current condition," he said.

He added that proper assessment of equipment requires operators to be in good physical and mental condition.
"Operators must also stay informed about each other’s work to ensure coordination and collaboration, boosting productivity and performance nationwide. This mutual cooperation and awareness are essential for improving operational quality and industry development."

The NIGC managing director expressed hope that, "with God’s help and the cooperation of all stakeholders—especially you, the operators—we will successfully overcome this winter as well."

The first technical and specialized event for Iran’s gas refining operators, designed to enhance expertise in the field, runs from April 15 to April 20. Hosted by the Sarkhoon and Qeshm gas refineries, the competition includes 18 top teams from refineries across the country.

The idea for the Gas Transmission Company’s first operators’ olympiad was proposed in August 2016 by its then-CEO and assigned in April 2017 to a group of innovative and creative employees. After extensive efforts, the operational plan was finalized in May 2018 and implemented for the first time in regions 3, 10, and 4 of gas transmission operations.
