Role of Isfahan Refinery’s RHU Project in reducing fuel imports

SHANA (Tehran) - The CEO of Iran’s National Oil Refining and Distribution Company stated that the faster implementation of the RHU project at the Isfahan refinery will not only reduce air pollution but also increase profitability and prevent unnecessary costs associated with fuel imports.

Mohammad-Sadeq Azimifar, speaking on Sunday during a visit to the Isfahan Oil Refinery, noted that due to the relentless efforts of refinery staff, gasoline production capacity has increased by 2 million liters. “Fortunately, this increased production ensures a smooth fuel supply for citizens during the Nowruz holiday travels,” he said.

He emphasized that achieving production targets under current conditions requires attracting investment for key refinery projects, urging managers to explore multiple financing models. “By accelerating the RHU project in Isfahan, we will see reduced air pollution, higher profitability, and fewer unnecessary expenses on fuel imports,” he added.

The CEO also highlighted that financing for the RFCC and RHU projects could be secured through the National Development Fund, foreign financing, mergers of corporate funds, and other means. He noted that in the current Iranian year (started March 21), liquid fuel deliveries to power plants increased by 41% compared to the previous year.
