South Pars pressure enhancement project a key step in boosting production

SHANA (Tehran) – A member of the Iranian Parliament’s Budget Integration Committee stated that leveraging domestic capabilities in the South Pars pressure enhancement project is a significant step toward achieving this year’s slogan of "boosting production with public participation, revitalizing industries, creating jobs, and fostering hope."

Mohammad Bayat, referencing the $17 billion investment in the South Pars pressure enhancement project, emphasized the severe energy imbalance in the gas sector. He noted that addressing this imbalance requires special attention across various sectors, including agriculture, industry, services, and infrastructure.

He warned that this imbalance not only negatively impacts the country’s economy but could also lead to serious energy supply crises.

Bayat added that the South Pars pressure enhancement project will increase production by boosting pressure in gas fields, enabling greater gas extraction. This, in turn, will help meet domestic energy needs and boost exports. The project serves as a key solution to supply energy for industries and households while reducing the country’s reliance on energy imports.

The lawmaker highlighted that strengthening energy security is another positive outcome of the project. By increasing production and diversifying energy sources, Iran can ensure stable energy supply for domestic industries and consumers, reducing dependence on imports. This is particularly crucial given the current global energy market’s volatility due to political and economic shifts.

Bayat also pointed out that over 70% of the project’s requirements are being met using the capabilities of domestic companies, contractors, manufacturers, and suppliers, including the use of Iranian-made turbo compressors. He described this as a significant step toward realizing this year’s slogan of boosting production through public participation, industrial growth, job creation, and fostering hope.
