Saeid Tavakoli, speaking on Sunday during the signing ceremony of a bilateral cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, stated that smart energy management can help tackle energy imbalance challenges more efficiently. He stressed the need to prioritize the use of digital capabilities in energy smartization efforts.
Tavakoli explained that the agreement aims to design, implement, deploy, maintain, and operate an integrated digital energy services platform. This initiative seeks to enhance information technology within the energy ecosystem, specifically targeting the management of energy imbalances, a pressing issue for the country.
He noted that there is strong consensus within the government and parliament to address energy imbalances across all sectors, reflecting a national approach to resolving these challenges. Tavakoli urged stakeholders to make the most of this opportunity.
By implementing this mechanism more precisely and swiftly, Tavakoli expressed optimism that the energy imbalance issue could be resolved sooner. He added that, beyond addressing imbalances, a secondary goal of the plan is to help the country progress by providing accurate information to individuals, households, and commercial and industrial consumers about their energy usage and quotas.
Tavakoli highlighted the importance of data security, noting that security and oversight institutions are committed to creating a fully secure environment for the project. This approach ensures that all security requirements are met.
The CEO of the NIGC pointed to serious efforts in data governance, including multiple meetings attended by the oil minister and even discussions in the presence of the president and heads of state. These meetings underscored the necessity of accessing accurate, precise, and up-to-date data to address energy imbalances. Tavakoli emphasized that effective management is only possible with reliable and current information.
Tavakoli also mentioned that by aggregating data from telecommunications operators and electricity consumption, the locations of cryptocurrency miners in the country can be easily identified.
He attributed the rise in miners and subsequent electricity consumption to the increasing global and domestic prices of cryptocurrencies.
The NIGC is prepared to address the country’s energy challenges, Tavakoli said, adding that this readiness led to expert working group meetings and the preparation of the agreement.
The primary goal of the agreement is to create a platform for managing information and data to improve energy consumption and demand management, increase efficiency, and reduce illegal connections.
Tavakoli stressed the importance of this initiative and its continuation until a framework for data collection and analysis is established. He concluded that only with accurate and up-to-date information can energy consumption be better managed, existing problems identified, and effective solutions proposed.
The initial phase of this cooperation aims to use this information to manage energy consumption and demand, boost productivity, and combat illegal connections.
