NPC announces $30b petrochemical investment in Mahshahr Region

SHANA (Tehran) – The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) announced an $80 billion investment in the petrochemical industry, stating that $30 billion of it has been allocated to the Mahshahr region.

Speaking on Wednesday evening during an administrative council meeting in Bandar Mahshahr, Hassan Abbaszadeh highlighted that 27% of the country’s petrochemical production capacity is located in the Mahshahr region.

He said, “This region holds unique significance, as one-third of Iran’s petrochemical industry capacity is concentrated here.”

Abbaszadeh noted that over 30,000 people are currently employed in the petrochemical industries within the Mahshahr Special Economic Petrochemical Zone.

He emphasized, “We must not forget that the downstream petrochemical sector is a major source of employment, and the necessary infrastructure for the development of these industries must be provided.”

The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company added, “Approximately $80 billion has been invested in the country’s petrochemical industry, with $30 billion of that invested in the Mahshahr region.”

Abbaszadeh also pointed out that in recent years, 1,300 hectares of green space have been established in the Mahshahr region, and over 9 million mangrove saplings have been planted. Additionally, he said,

“This year, 14 gas flares associated with oil production were extinguished in collaboration with the National Iranian Oil Company, adding approximately 4 million cubic meters of gas per day to the feedstock capacity of petrochemical plants.”
