President: Improving consumption habits can manage energy imbalances

SHANA (Tehran) – The president stated that while Iran holds the largest combined reserves of oil and gas globally, its energy consumption—three to four times higher than Europe's—has caused a crisis as he emphasized that reforming consumption habits is key to managing energy imbalances.

Masoud Pezeshkian, during the second provincial visit to North Khorasan, spoke at a public meeting in Bojnord on Thursday morning.

He acknowledged the difficulty of addressing the people, saying, "Speaking here is challenging for me because I am in no position to merely talk; I must deliver on what I have said and promised."

Reflecting on the 45 years since the revolution, Pezeshkian noted, "Problems have been repeatedly discussed but not resolved. However, with God's help and your support, we will address these challenges as much as possible."

The president highlighted the need to reform internal practices, stating, "The government's duty is to clear the path for the people. Any obstacle within our control will be removed. However, we all must take responsibility for resource consumption."

He warned, "We cannot expect the country to move forward without challenges if we continue with inefficient consumption practices."

Pezeshkian reiterated, "Despite having the world's largest oil and gas reserves, our consumption rate—three to four times that of Europe—has brought us to a crisis. Power and gas outages are the result of this poor management."

He called for a shift in consumption culture, citing examples: "Take this hall, for instance. The excessive heat or unnecessary lighting are the results of habits that need to change. If each of us takes even a small step toward saving, this crisis can be managed."
