Speaking at a ceremony marking Research Week held at Imam Hossein University of Tehran on Monday, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf noted that prior to his legislative role, he had nearly 40 years of managerial and executive experience, giving him familiarity with data, figures, and issues.
"Today, we are facing fuel smuggling, with 25 to 30 million liters of gasoline being smuggled daily, even as we import diesel fuel for power plant needs," he said.
The lawmaker added, "We need to address these issues openly with the public. Currently, our gas consumption is more than 2.5 times the global average, and we have not resolved this. Effective management of energy consumption is essential."
The Speaker highlighted certain platforms developed at Imam Hossein University, stating that through these platforms, fuel smuggling could be managed and minimized within less than a year with practical actions.
Qalibaf concluded, "While our system functions, its components are not synchronized to ensure forward progress. Despite obstacles created by some, we must stand firm and move in the right direction, as it is our duty."
