Sepehr, Jofeir oil fields in SW Iran put into operation officially

SHANA (Ahvaz) – Sepehr and Jofeir oil fields became officially operational via videoconference in a ceremony attended by Iran’s President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi and Oil Minister Javad Owji in southwestern province of Khuzestan on Friday.

The national project for the development of the two fields, situated in the West Karoun region, 60 kilometers off southwest of Ahvaz, the capital of southwestern province of Khuzestan, is underway on the basis of a 20-year 2.8-billion-dollar contract, the first one signed according to the new type dubbed the Iran Petroleum Contract (IPC).

The project’s first phase inaugurated by the visiting president added 50,000 barrels to Iran’s daily oil production capacity.

On Thursday, Mohsen Khojastehmehr, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) managing director, said it was not possible to use ordinary wellhead and downhole equipment due to the reservoir’s high pressure, adding well-completion equipment was manufactured inside the country and the job was done by applying the 10,000-pound-per-square-inch (psi) pressure to it.

He pointed to the installation of 51-kilometer-long oil transmission pipeline and construction of an access road with a length of over 32 kilometers as other operations carried out for the two fields’ development.

According to the official, 135 wells will become operational and 110,000 barrels of oil will be produced per day when the operations of the Sepehr and Jofeir project end.
