TEHRAN - A piece of legislation adopted by the Majlis to vet Iran's awarding of a mobile phone contract to Turkcell has nothing to do with the prices of cellphones.
"This piece of legislation does not mean the annulment of the contract but it may delay the affairs," Masood Moqaddas, advisor to the minister of communications and information technology, said.
He noted that scuppering the deal would cost Iran heavy costs.
"If the deal is scuppered we will have to pay damages," he said.
The bill could affect a $3 billion deal with Turkey's Turkcell over Iran's second private GSM mobile phone operating license.
Turkcell was initially awarded the GSM mobile phone operating license in February to add 16 million users to the current 3.4 million subscribers.
