Sustainable Electricity Supply Ensures Uninterrupted Oil Recovery in West Karoun Region: CEO

TEHRAN (Shana) – The CEO of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) said, "Sustainable electricity supply guarantees continuous production of oil in the West Karoun oil fields cluster, and the construction and operation of the West Karoun power plant is very important in this regard."

Addressing a video conference to launch the power plant on Monday, Touraj Dehghani presented a report on this project to the President.

He said the cluster is an important oil supply area to the country, adding continuation of production, processing and transportation of crude oil in the fields of this region requires a sustainable supply of electricity which is on the newly-built power plant.”

He added: "This power plant consists of three units with 165 MW power generation capacity, of which the first two units, which are gas units, will be put into operation today, and inauguration of the third unit, which is a steam unit is underway."

Besides, 200 km of power transmission and distribution line has been constructed inside West Karoun region, Mr. Dehghani added.

He stated that the investment made in construction of the power plant has been €320 million so far by MAPNA Group. Moreover, another €110 million has been invested by the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) to lay the transmission lines and substations.
