Shahdaie: No Disruption in Petchem Plant's Activity after Fire

TEHRAN, Aug 07 (Shana) – Deputy Minister of Petroleum Marzieh Shahdaie said on Saturday that fire in the BDSR Section of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company did not affect the least the activity of the facility.

Shahdaie said that fortunately in light of efforts of the firefighting squad, the fire was scaled down and it will be completely over in hours.

She said it cannot be said for sure what the main cause of the incident was and any rumor in websites are not confirmed.

She added that the depot contained 4,000 products and the exact estimates of the stored items will soon be officially and transparently brought to the attention of the public through the media.

Fire erupted in the BDSR Section of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company Saturday evening, leaving no fatalities.

Meanwhile, Shahdaie said early Sunday morning that fire in the BDSR section of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company has been successfully put out.

Shahdaie announced early Sunday morning that after hours of efforts, firefighters managed to extinguish the fire fully.

“Thanks God and efforts of all fire fighters and the management in charge, the BDSR fire was controlled and put out; the reasons of the fire will be announced in the first possible time and the scale of damage will be estimated,” Shahdaie said.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company Reza Amiri said on Saturday that a panel has begun investigation of cause(s) of fire in Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company’s BDSR unit depot.

Amiri said the main cause of the incident cannot be announced yet and all guesses made in websites are not confirmed.

He said depot contained 4,000 tons of stored products and soon the precise amount of damage will be announced through the media.
He had earlier announced that the incident had left no fatality.

He said the fire had broken out in the BDSR part and has not disrupted entire activity of the facility. 

In a related development, Head of the HSE Department at National Petrochemical Company Ali-Reza Narimannejad said on Saturday that fire putting off operation is in its final stage.

Narimannejad told Shana that only minor flames are remaining. 

He said fortunately fire has not been spread to other sections.

"Our important and initial step is fully putting out fire and investigations will then begin on cause of the incident when the fire is fully extinguished," he added.

Also, Managing Director of National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Marzieh Shahdaie headed for Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone (PETZONE) to verify the inferno in the BDSR section of Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company. 

Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company is a petrochemical facility in Mahshahr PETZONE and its products are ethane, butane, propane, ethylene, pentane, gasoline pyrolysis, crude residue, xyelens, rafinite, heavy aromatics and Paraxylene (PX). It is the first major producer of petrochemical products in Iran for its high production capacity.

The complex owns three subsidiary companies, namely Bandar Imam Processing Company, Kimia and Besparan.
