Power plant fuel supplies improve, Parliament told

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s parliamentary oversight committee says the country’s power plants have sufficient fuel reserves, with supplies in a significantly better position than they were two years ago.

Mohamad Rashidi, a member of the Parliament’s presiding board, said the issue was discussed during the fifth joint oversight and review session attended by Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad and Esmaeil Seqab-Esfahani, head of the Energy Optimization and Strategic Management Organization. The meeting focused on fuel production, supply and management across the country.

Rashidi said officials presented a detailed report on fuel production and supply conditions. He noted that following attacks on some oil industry facilities and infrastructure, authorities must plan ahead to ensure efficient fuel consumption management in the coming months.

According to reports presented at the meeting, fuel supply conditions for power plants have improved considerably compared with the past two years, and strategic fuel reserves are currently at a highly favorable level.

Rashidi also stressed the need to quickly restore production at phases of the Assaluyeh energy hub and bring petrochemical capacities back online. He said doing so would help reduce imbalances in the supply of natural gas, gasoline and diesel fuel. He added that policies are already being pursued to address these challenges.

Parliament Opposes Fuel Price Increases

Rashidi said lawmakers reiterated their opposition to any increase in gasoline and diesel prices during the session.

Instead, representatives expressed support for alternative measures, including allocating fuel quotas directly to individual citizens rather than to vehicles. He noted that the proposal appears to be under consideration by the government, although officials said it is still being studied and evaluated from multiple perspectives before any final decision is made.
