Jafar Qaderi said that under current conditions, nonprice approaches to gasoline management should be prioritized. He noted that greater use of public transportation, expansion of renewable energy, and wider adoption of alternative fuels such as compressed natural gas, or CNG, could significantly help reduce gasoline consumption.
Qaderi said a large share of fuel consumption is currently linked to aging vehicles, adding that removing outdated cars from circulation would contribute to lower fuel use.
He also stressed the importance of public awareness and cultural initiatives in promoting energy conservation, saying effective measures can be taken in this area.
Referring to the country’s rail transportation capacity, Qaderi said the sector should be utilized more effectively to reduce fuel consumption. He added that encouraging the public to use mass transit systems and implementing traffic restriction plans in major cities could also help curb fuel demand.
Qaderi described the performance of the Oil Ministry during the third imposed war as commendable, saying that despite wartime limitations, no fuel shortages were felt across the country, a performance he said deserves recognition.
