According to the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC), fuel supply to power plants became a key pillar of energy security under the 14th administration, with official data showing unprecedented records in fuel deliveries and storage.
Cumulative figures show that deliveries of gasoil and fuel oil to power plants in 2024, following a sharp decline in inventories inherited from the previous administration, rose steadily in the months after the new government took office. Total deliveries reached about 19.5 billion liters, up roughly 40% from the same period a year earlier. The volume was the highest level of power plant fuel deliveries in the 97-year history of NIOPDC. Deliveries during the same period in 2023 were reported at about 13.5 billion liters, an increase of more than 6 billion liters year over year.
Historic surge in fuel storage
One of the most notable achievements of the 14th administration has been the sharp rise in power plant gasoil reserves. Data from the Power Generation Information System (PGIS) show that in Aban 2025, gasoil reserves exceeded 3.4 billion liters for the first time, representing more than 90% of power plant storage capacity. The figure was 86% higher than the peak level recorded in 2024 and 6% higher than the previous record in 2023.
In view of the expected energy imbalance during the cold season, the government had set a target of raising power plant gasoil reserves to 3.4 billion liters before the start of winter. That goal was not only met but surpassed. At the same time, fuel inventories at NIOPDC depots increased to 2.4 billion liters, providing a reliable buffer for uninterrupted fuel supply to power plants.
Higher daily deliveries meet peak demand
Average daily deliveries of liquid fuel to power plants during the cold months reached about 53 million liters per day, a significant increase from previous years. In the third 10-day period of Azar, daily gasoil consumption at power plants hit a historic peak of 112 million liters. Without prior preparation and stockpiling, officials said, such demand could have posed a serious challenge to electricity generation.
The combined figures indicate that through early planning, expanded delivery capacity, strengthened storage and more efficient fuel mix management, the 14th administration has played a decisive role in maintaining the stability of electricity production.
The upward trend in power plant fuel supply under the current government reflects not only a statistical milestone but also a clear sign of stronger energy security and a lower-risk passage through the winter season.
