Use of personal fuel cards rises after new gasoline plan

SHANA (Tehran) – The spokesman for Iran’s fuel station operators said the use of personal fuel cards has increased, while reliance on station-issued cards has declined following the implementation of a new gasoline policy.

According to state broadcaster IRIB, Reza Navaz said changes in fuel consumption patterns since the rollout of the new plan show a significant rise in the use of personal fuel cards, now accounting for 73% to 75% of all refueling. He said such levels have not been seen in recent years, indicating the effectiveness of the new policy.

Navaz added that the trend shows station-issued cards have not been restricted, noting that drivers who do not have access to a personal fuel card can still refuel using station cards.

He said the government raised the price of gasoline purchased with station cards to 50,000 rials from 30,000 rials under the new plan, a move that appears to have played a key role in encouraging motorists to use personal fuel cards.
