According to the website of the first vice president, the second meeting of the Regional Energy Trade Steering Committee was held Thursday under the chairmanship of Mohammadreza Aref, with the participation of Saeed Tavakoli, CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company. The meeting reviewed measures and plans to turn the Islamic Republic of Iran into a regional energy trading center.
Aref said the government’s neighborhood-oriented foreign policy, expanded ties and cooperation with regional countries, and active participation in key regional pacts and unions under the 14th administration would support that goal. He added that by developing energy trade with the Eurasian Economic Union and neighboring countries, Iran can become a regional energy trading hub.
The meeting also reviewed and approved plans, measures and frameworks to expand and upgrade energy cooperation with Eurasian Economic Union members and regional countries, in line with the objectives of Iran’s seventh five-year development plan and the country’s strategic position and geopolitical advantages in the region.
