Parliament backs oil, gas expansion plans

SHANA (Tehran) – A member of Parliament said lawmakers support the country’s oil and gas development programs, emphasizing that strengthening the energy sector will boost production, increase national revenues and enhance economic security.

Fatemeh Jarareh stressed the importance of continued investment in the energy industry, saying parliamentary support for oil and gas expansion is rooted in the sector’s critical role in driving economic growth and reinforcing Iran’s national strength.

“Across the world, energy infrastructure is among the primary indicators of a country’s economic resilience and management capability,” Jarareh said. “When the oil and gas industry can restore part of its production capacity in a short period, it demonstrates the stability and reliability of the nation’s energy supply chain.”

She described South Pars as more than a gas field, calling it the backbone of Iran’s natural gas supply, a key supporter of thousands of industrial and manufacturing facilities, and one of the country’s main economic engines.

According to Jarareh, any successful effort to preserve or restore production capacity at South Pars has a direct impact on economic security and public welfare.

She also highlighted the results of years of investment in technical expertise and workforce development, saying Iran’s oil and gas industry has reached a stage where it can manage a significant portion of its technical and operational requirements without relying on foreign support.

Jarareh said strengthening domestic capabilities in the energy sector remains essential to ensuring sustainable production growth and supporting the country’s long-term economic objectives.
