TEHRAN – Iran has started studies on a power line, which will be used to exchange electricity among Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan and if study results proved positive, the line would be built.
Deputy managing director of Irans TAVANIR Company noted that during the recent trip to Tajikistan by Irans energy minister, a memorandum of understanding was signed with counterparts from Afghanistan and Tajikistan and three countries agreed to study the plan.
Masoud Hojjat stated that if studies proved successful, the power transmission line would be built among the three countries.
He added that the transmission line will start in Sang Toudeh power plant of Tajikistan, will go to Herat in Afghanistan and will continue toward Mashhad in Iran.
Hojjat stated that the line will be 500-kv power line and added that if Pakistan was wiling to join the group, the course of the line could be changed to include Pakistan.
Iran is currently exchanging electricity with all its neighbors save for Kuwait and is trying to join European power grid through Russian electricity network.
The power link between Iran and Russia will be established through Azerbaijan and is to become operational by the next Christian year.
