NIOC boosts gas, oil production capacity

SHANA (Tehran) – Following the inauguration of the 14th administration in Iran, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has taken significant steps to address gas shortages, increase oil production, and develop infrastructure in the oil industry.

Achievements include a 75,000-barrel-per-day increase in oil production within months and record-breaking gas production.

With the new administration’s focus on the oil sector as a driver of national development, efforts were intensified to maximize conditions for the growth of this vital industry. This shift came amid critical timing, gas imbalances, and the urgent need to boost foreign currency revenues.

By implementing new strategic management models, the NIOC overhauled its oil and gas production processes to address shortages and create added value. As a result, daily oil production increased by 60,000 barrels within the first 100 days of the new administration, eventually reaching 75,000 barrels by the end of Dey, the 10th month of the Iranian calendar (January 19).

Much of this growth was achieved in the oil-rich southern regions, West Karun, and the Arvandan Oil and Gas Operating Company. Additional increases came from new well operations and desalination projects in central Iran.

Notable successes include increased production from the Sepehr, Jofeyr, Ramshir, and Rag Sefid fields, as well as from the Aghajari, Karoun, Gachsaran, and Arvandan oil and gas companies. These efforts collectively contributed to the 60,000-barrel increase in Iran’s oil production over 100 days.

Another milestone was the commissioning of the Abu Dhabi oil field pipeline to Kharg Island, which replaced the onshore section. This achievement marks a significant step toward sustaining crude oil production and exports from the Abu Dhabi field.

Record-breaking gas production increase

Among the strategic initiatives undertaken by the NIOC, the increase of over 30 million cubic meters of gas production stands out. This achievement is particularly critical given the reduction in strategic diesel reserves and gas imbalances during the winter season.

Recognizing the growing demand for gas in the second half of the year, the NIOC prioritized winter gas supply planning and increasing strategic reserves to prevent energy crises during cold seasons.

Before the onset of severe winter weather, the company successfully added over 30 million cubic meters per day to Iran’s gas production—equivalent to the consumption of two provinces. This increase was largely achieved by bringing new wells online.
