President chairs meeting on plans to boost production, address energy imbalance

SHANA (Tehran) – President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review plans aimed at increasing production and addressing imbalances in the country’s energy sector.

According to president.ir, Pezeshkian emphasized the need for greater speed and efficiency in implementing energy projects. He said a new framework should be developed to pursue and expand initiatives focused on balancing energy supply and demand and boosting production.

“The goal is to reduce costs and timelines for each project while significantly improving quality, speed, and efficiency,” the president said.

Pezeshkian called for full cooperation among all relevant agencies and organizations, urging them to act proactively and effectively to resolve energy imbalances and enhance output. He also highlighted the importance of utilizing the capacities of universities and the experience of foreign experts to accelerate results in line with the Supreme Leader’s directives.

“In meetings with the Supreme Leader, he has repeatedly stressed the need to prevent the waste of fuel through gas flaring. This issue must be taken seriously by all related sectors,” Pezeshkian said.

Reducing Project Timelines and Improving Oversight

The president instructed all relevant institutions to strengthen their cooperation to expedite project implementation, noting that operational mechanisms should be designed to prevent interference or exploitation by intermediaries.

Highlighting the importance of efficiency and foreign investment, Pezeshkian said that any new plans, approvals, or regulations needed to facilitate the participation of foreign investors in the oil and gas sector would be promptly reviewed and pursued.

He also underscored the importance of reducing project timelines and improving oversight, instructing that infrastructure be developed to install monitoring cameras at oil project sites to ensure the continuous and accurate tracking of progress.

The meeting was attended by Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, Head of the Plan and Budget Organization Hamid Pourmohammadi, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Atabak, and several senior Oil Ministry officials.

The participants discussed progress and obstacles related to major projects, including the emergency plan to raise oil production by 250,000 barrels per day, the development of joint oil fields—particularly the Azadegan field—the expansion of production in the South Pars gas field, and the collection of flare gas.
