Energy’s future depends on a new generation of skilled professionals

SHANA (Doha) — Iran’s Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad said the evolving landscape of the global oil and gas industry calls for training a new generation of skilled professionals familiar with international frameworks and technological developments.

Speaking Wednesday during a meeting with Qatar’s Minister of Energy Saad al-Kaabi ahead of the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Doha, Paknejad emphasized the importance of fostering future talent for the energy sector.

“Iran and Qatar have always maintained close and brotherly relations in the field of energy,” Paknejad said. “We stress the need to expand bilateral cooperation and continue constructive engagement in the energy sector.”

He highlighted ongoing structural changes in the global energy market, saying the industry is entering a new phase that requires experts well-versed in both the oil and gas industry and international mechanisms governing it.

The minister also underscored the need for member countries to consult closely on choosing a new GECF secretary-general and to work toward transforming the forum into a more influential body in global energy affairs.

For his part, Qatar’s energy minister welcomed Paknejad and expressed support for deepening bilateral relations in various energy fields, calling for strengthened cooperation between the two “friendly and brotherly” nations.

The 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum is scheduled to be held Thursday in Doha, with ministers and senior officials from member states attending.
