Oil minister leaves Tehran for Doha to attend GECF meeting

SHANA (Tehran) - Iran's Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, departed Tehran for Doha on Tuesday evening, heading to Qatar to attend the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

The event will take place on Thursday in Doha. Qatar has hosted the GECF ministerial meeting seven times, most recently in 2016.
The primary agenda for this year’s meeting includes coordinating GECF members to address global policies that challenge and limit the development of the gas industry and market. Discussions will also focus on key organizational matters, including the selection of the new GECF Secretary General and the agenda for the 8th Summit of GECF Heads of State in Moscow.
Before the ministerial meeting, the GECF Executive Board will convene in an extraordinary session on Wednesday to review the meeting’s agenda, resolutions, and final statement.
According to the GECF charter, the ministerial meeting is the highest decision-making body of the organization, meeting annually except for extraordinary sessions. In addition to organizational matters, the meeting will include discussions on current developments in the global and regional gas industry.
The 26th GECF Ministerial Meeting was held in Tehran in December 2024.
