Mohammadreza Doaei, the special inspector of the petroleum minister, emphasized the company’s critical role in energy governance during the introduction ceremony of the new acting head of the Fuel Consumption Optimization Company on Tuesday.
“Optimization is no longer a choice but an absolute necessity to overcome the energy imbalance crisis,” he said. “In line with senior officials’ directives, appointing capable young professionals to key positions is imperative. Mr. Mohammadpour, with his scientific approach, persistent follow-up, and strategic vision, can effectively contribute to achieving major objectives in this field.”
Doaei noted that the petroleum minister has consistently emphasized avoiding political distractions and focusing on public service. “Selecting competent managers for key roles has been instrumental in enhancing the ministry’s performance. Mohammadpour is among those managers who can inspire and unify his team,” he added.
Referring to a new energy governance structure established by the presidency, Doaei warned that without effective energy optimization measures, the country would face greater challenges in the coming years. “We hope the new CEO’s innovative approach will lead to tangible progress in reducing energy imbalances and advancing the Seventh Development Plan’s goals.”
Highlighting the role of young, expert managers
Hossein Hosseinzadeh, chairman of the Oil Pension Funds Board, acknowledged the efforts of previous managers and the new board, praising Barat Ghobadian, chairman of the Fuel Consumption Optimization Company, as a strategic and experienced figure in energy policy. “Combining the expertise of seasoned managers with the dynamism of younger professionals can drive transformation and progress in the oil industry. Continuous collaboration across managerial generations is essential to overcoming challenges,” he said.
Noting Mohammadpour’s technical and executive experience in upstream and downstream oil sectors, Hosseinzadeh said, “He is a specialist in gas, oil, petrochemicals, exploration, and refining, with a strong track record of collaboration with the Parliament’s Energy Commission and the Ministry of Petroleum.”
Hosseinzadeh highlighted the company’s policy-making role since 2000, particularly in transportation, industry, construction, and rail sectors. “We hope that under Mohammadpour’s leadership and with the ministry’s support, ongoing processes—including consolidating optimization tasks under a unified structure—will yield positive results.”
Need to leverage managerial capabilities
Hamid Deris, CEO of Arvandan Oil and Gas Company, stressed the importance of responsibly utilizing energy resources. “Mr. Mohammadpour’s appointment presents an opportunity for the oil industry to benefit from his expertise. His leadership means the country can leverage his knowledge, experience, and strategic insight in both theoretical and practical energy sectors.”
Deris warned that energy consumption and production levels are converging, necessitating simultaneous production capacity enhancement and consumption optimization. “Mr. Mohammadpour has previously prevented misguided policies through his technical and managerial insights. His leadership should also foster better human resource utilization to help the organization achieve its rightful position.”
Promoting a culture of energy conservation
Mohsen Mohammadpour, acting head of the Fuel Consumption Optimization Company, criticized the lack of public awareness on energy conservation. “Unfortunately, sufficient efforts have not been made to promote a culture of optimal energy use, despite the non-renewable nature of hydrocarbon reserves. The company must strengthen its role in public awareness and education.”
He commended the petroleum minister for maintaining stability in the ministry through a technical, media-free approach. “During last winter’s energy crisis, despite record production of crude oil, petroleum products, and natural gas, the imbalance was effectively managed through the Winter Fuel Committee and proper administrative measures.”
Management must serve the public
Barat Qobadian, chairman of the Fuel Consumption Optimization Company, emphasized that managers must prioritize public service. “Management should not be about clinging to positions. Success hinges on knowledge, experience, and creativity.”
Stressing the importance of a conducive work environment, he expressed hope that Mohammadpour’s leadership would continue the path of development, prosperity, and national pride. Ghobadian called for collective effort, teamwork, and empathy to achieve the strategic goals of the Ministry of Petroleum and the National Iranian Oil Company. “Everyone must work toward the growth of the energy sector and serving the people.”
