The agreement, signed on the first day of the 29th International Oil, Gas, Refining & Petrochemical Exhibition (Iran Oil Show 2025) on Thursday, aims for technological collaboration in coal-to-gas conversion. It focuses on addressing Iran’s gas supply imbalance and utilizing alternative fuels.
Azim Kalantari-Asl, head of the RIPI, and Artuki Rowan Luo, representative of Keyon, signed the memorandum.
Hamid Ganji, head of the RIPI’s Gas Research Department, emphasized the need for alternative energy sources, stating, “Given the current gas shortage, domestic resources like coal can serve as a viable substitute for natural gas.”
He added, “Iran has significant coal reserves, and the Chinese company has valuable expertise in synthetic gas technology and hydrogen production from coal. The main goal of this partnership is to localize technical knowledge and transfer technology for future industrial use.”
