Tehran, Moscow agree on key cooperation areas

SHANA (Moscow) – The head of the Russian Energy Ministry’s International Cooperation Department said Tehran and Moscow have reached agreements on a significant portion of their bilateral cooperation areas during economic talks—a development that could open new horizons for deepening Iran-Russia economic relations.

Alexey Kryakov, speaking Wednesday at the official opening of the 18th Iran-Russia Economic Cooperation Meeting, welcomed representatives from various ministries and organizations of both countries.

He noted that agreements on most cooperation areas had already been reached, with final discussions taking place today and Thursday.

“I hope the finalization of these agreements will lead to a successful and fruitful meeting for the Iranian and Russian sides,” he added.

The expert meetings of the 18th Joint Economic Cooperation Commission between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation began Wednesday in Moscow at the Russian Energy Agency. Specialized working groups from both countries are discussing potential areas of bilateral cooperation.

Following two days of talks, the expert delegations will prepare multiple cooperation documents for signing by Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad and Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev, the co-chairs of the joint commission.

The final session for signing the agreements will be held Friday at the President Hotel of Moscow, attended by Iran’s oil minister and Russia’s energy minister.
