Over 2.8b liters of gasoline consumed during Nowruz holidays

SHANA (Tehran) – During the Nowruz holidays, from March 15 to April 4, a total of 2.82 billion liters of gasoline were distributed across the country, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period last year.

The fuel distribution process during the holidays was carried out smoothly, thanks to special measures implemented by the Oil Ministry and the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) to ensure supply and optimal resource management during peak demand.

Compared to last year’s 2.46 billion liters distributed during the same period (March 15 to April 4, 2024), this year’s figures reflect a significant rise in consumption.

Keramat Veys-Karami, CEO of the NIOPDC, stated that the average daily gasoline consumption during this year’s Nowruz holidays was 134.5 million liters, up 9% from last year’s average of 123 million liters.

He noted that extensive planning in storage and supply during the second half of the Iranian calendar year (starting September 2023) helped meet the increased demand. A historic record was set on March 19, with over 164 million liters of gasoline distributed in a single day.

Veys-Karami added that gasoline production increased by an average of 8 million liters per day in the latter half of the year, ensuring stable supply during the holiday period.

On the final day of the holidays (April 4), 125.7 million liters of gasoline were distributed, a 15% increase compared to the 109.1 million liters recorded on the same day last year.

The average daily consumption between March 21 and April 4 was 130.8 million liters. The highest consumption days were March 19, with 164.4 million liters, and April 1, with 150.2 million liters.
