Iran boosts daily diesel delivery to power plants by 16m liters

SHANA (Tehran) – The National Iranian Oil Products Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) has increased daily delivery of diesel for power plants by 16 million liters this winter, the company's CEO said.

Mohammad-Sadeq Azimifar, CEO of the NIORDC, made the announcement during a joint meeting with Hamid Bovard, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, and members of the Iranian Parliament's Energy Committee on the sidelines of a visit to the Abadan Refinery.

With the implementation of the second phase of the Abadan Refinery's development project, daily production of Euro-grade gasoline and diesel will increase to 14 million and 16 million liters, respectively, Azimifar said. This will largely eliminate the country's deficit of Euro-grade gasoline and diesel, assuming proper management and controlled consumption.

The project's implementation will also ensure stable production and supply of petroleum products, paving the way for the country to stop importing these products in the coming years, which will increase the country's resilience, Azimifar added.

The CEO of the NIORDC emphasized that the annual budget law has allocated sufficient funds for the project, and he hopes it will be implemented with the cooperation of all stakeholders.

Azimifar also said that the company set new records in supplying fuel to power plants this winter, with an average daily delivery of 54 million liters of diesel from Nov. 21, 2024 to Feb. 18, 2025, a 16-million-liter increase compared to the same period last year.

The total delivery of diesel to power plants from the beginning of the 14th administration's term to February 18 was 7.5 billion liters, a 45% increase compared to the same period last year, he said.
