Younes Yousefi, head of the Transportation Department at the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC), stated that due to the extended period the rig was stationed on a Pony Base in a high-humidity environment, the disassembly process differs from standard rig separation methods used by the company’s fleet.
He added that the most experienced specialists from the Transportation Department, responsible for the disassembly, transportation, installation, and dismantling of drilling equipment, along with drilling operations and HSE management experts, are working to ensure the rig is disassembled under safe conditions.
Yousefi explained that the rig, installed on a Pony Base, stands 6 meters taller than similar rigs at the location. Severe humidity, corrosion, and deterioration have made the separation of pins and connections particularly challenging, compounded by the need to work at a greater height than usual.
He noted that the volume of cutting, welding, and lubrication of parts and equipment is significant, and due to the potential for deep corrosion, the work must be carried out with precision and safety. These factors mean the relocation process will take longer compared to standard rig moves.
Yousefi said that after dismantling, Rig 69 Fat’h will be transported to the drilling rig refurbishment and renovation site in Ahvaz. The relocation process has been planned and will be executed simultaneously with the dismantling of equipment.
